Sea Grant 2007: Uniting for Action
Saturday, 29 September 2007 - Wednesday, 3 October 2007
Bahia Hotel, San Diego, California
Meeting Purpose
This gathering of the Sea Grant Network provides an opportunity for all members of the Sea Grant network to have a voice in developing a strategic direction for our program nationally and helping to identify ways that our local and regional activities will contribute to the impact of the National Sea Grant College Program. It is critically important that we have representatives of all of the component networks of Sea Grant participate in the development of the next National Sea Grant College Program strategic plan. A national Strategic Planning Steering Committee will be developing the major themes for this plan over the coming months by soliciting input from stakeholders, Sea Grant staff around the country, partner organizations, and from recently developed synergistic planning efforts. The focus on strategic planning also derives from the recommendations recently made by the National Research Council on improvements to the Sea Grant review process and this meeting provides an opportunity for the network to consider the potential changes and how they will affect the planning, development, and delivery of our research, education and outreach programming.
Meeting Outcome
Through facilitated breakout sessions, the meeting attendees will develop national goals, objectives, strategies and potential outcomes for the themes to be included in the national strategic plan. This information will be provided to the national Strategic Planning Steering Committee. Discussion will also include the mechanisms for contributing to the implementation of the national plan at a local and regional level.
