Jam Session

This event will be an opportunity to enjoy the musical talents of fellow scientists. Having occurred during the 2010 and 2012 meetings, quite a following has developed among both musicians and audience members. Relax at the jam session and spend time in a variety of ways - visiting with colleagues or performing with other scientists-musicians and providing an entertaining evening for everyone. Musicians are invited to bring musical instruments and join the performance on the evening of Tuesday, February 25, 2014.

1st Ocean Sciences 5K Fun Run

The results of the OSM 2014 5K Fun Run have been posted at TimeLine Hawaii.

Location: Ala Moana Park, located along the shore just west of the conference hotels and Convention Center. Head west along Ala Moana Blvd and the park will be on the right just after passing over the canal.

Entrance Fee: $30 and includes a running shirt with thematic logo and a timing chip.

Pre-register with your conference registration. Race packets, including a running shirt, a timing chip, and directions to Ala Moana Park, will be available for pickup in the registration area of the conference center, starting on Monday of the conference week.

The Fun Run event is looking for 10 volunteers to help out with the run. If you are interested in participating as a volunteer, please contact Steven Ackleson at steve@saoceans.com. All volunteers will receive a free event T-shirt!

C-MORE Summer Course Networking Event

For 8 years the Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education has offered an international summer course 'Microbial Oceanography: From Genomes to microbes'. Over 100 graduate students and Post-docs from around the world have participated and we would like to use the OSM 2014 Meeting as venue for previous summer course participants and faculty who lectured to meet, gather & talk about science and how participating in the summer course has impacted their careers!

R/V Falkor Tours

Schmidt Ocean Institute offers tours of R/V Falkor following the close of the Ocean Sciences Meeting on Friday February 28th!

Schmidt Ocean Institute will offer tours of its Research Vessel, Falkor, on Friday February 28th, following the close of the 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting.

Schmidt Ocean Institute is a private non-profit operating foundation established to advance oceanographic research, discovery, and knowledge, and to catalyze sharing of information about the oceans. The Institute, established in 2009 by Eric and Wendy Schmidt, is devoted to the inspirational vision of the Founders that the advancement of technology and open sharing of information will remain crucial to expanding the understanding of the world’s ocean.

Schmidt Ocean Institute owns and operates the Research Vessel Falkor, a 272 ft. ship that completed a scientific refit and field trials in 2012 and its first full year of oceanographic operations in 2013. R/V Falkor supports a wide range of scientific marine operations, including AUV and ROV operations, hydrographic surveys and multidisciplinary acoustic research, wet and dry laboratory work, underway water sampling and data collection, mammal and bird observations, over-the-side deployments, CTD/Hydrowinch operations, and interactive research, communications, and educational activities requiring high bandwidth global Internet access. Starting in 2015, Schmidt Ocean Institute will also offer support for scientific operations with its new full ocean depth capable hybrid remotely operated vehicle.

Come take a guided tour of the R/V Falkor! Tours will be given Friday afternoon following the conclusion of the 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting. Round-trip motor coach transportation will be provided to R/V Falkor from the convention center, departing the convention center at 4:30 pm.
