Student & Post Doc Opportunities

Mentoring Program

The JASM 2014 mentoring program is designed to match students with established scientific professionals so students can learn from the experience and knowledge of a more experienced member of their field. Those attendees who indicated their interest in the mentor-mentee program during registration will be receiving an email and a survey link so that mentees can be matched with mentors based on shared interests.  Once the matches are made, students and their mentors can arrange to meet informally and will also have the opportunity to meet for dinner, drinks, or dessert during the Mentor/Mentee Dinner, Dessert, or Drinks event on Tuesday at 8pm.

Mentor/Mentee Dinner, Dessert, or Drinks

The purpose of the Mentor/Mentee Dinner is to create a casual meeting experience in which professionals and students can share academic and career goals and get to know each other.  Time is reserved on Tuesday evening at 8pm for this event.  Mentors will be assigned 1-3 students and individual mentor-mentee groups will coordinate specific plans for their evening.  While the event is on-your-own, look for a meet up table near the registration desk on Tuesday evening for more information about local restaurants, mass transit, and to resolve last minute kinks in planning with your mentor or mentee.

For those of you that are not familiar with the City of Portland, check our local locations map (PDF) for some suggestions regarding local dining establishments.  Locations consist of a wide selection of choices, accessibility by walking or mass transit and display the eccentric culture of Portland. Feel free to deviate from the suggested list and explore the city. Contact Bridget and Alex with any questions:
