Call for Judges

CERF 2009 Conference Needs Student Presentation Judges!
The CERF conference provides many opportunities for students. Important contacts are made, students learn from and meet experts in their particular field of study, and present the results of their graduate or undergraduate research studies. As a student presentation judge, you will enhance the value of the conference to students, both financially and professionally.
Giving a talk to an audience of peers or describing the highlights of a poster one-on-one during a poster session is a rite of passage and a valuable experience for students. In addition to the informal feedback received from friends and colleagues, CERF provides students with formal feedback from judges, who evaluate each presentation. As a judge, you agree to listen to and review a handful of presentations or posters, likely a combination of 2-4 student talks and posters. We make every effort to match judges with presentations that are in their field of expertise.
Judging will not take much of your time, and you can decide how many or how few presentations you would like to judge. To make the process work, we need many committed judges (grad students can serve as judges for undergraduate presentations). On the last day of the conference, a team compiles and reviews the forms and recognizes students who will receive cash awards for their exceptional presentations.
So when you register for the conference, be sure to check the box “Yes, I would like to judge Student Presentations.” As the conference approaches, the Judging Committee will coordinate with you. Judge’s packets, containing forms, instructions, and the names of those you’ll be judging, will be provided to you at the Conference registration desk when you pick up your conference materials.
Serving as a judge helps the Federation and the student presenters and is an enriching experience for you, as well. From the students and the Conference Committee, thanks in advance for your help!
