THE MEASURES OF POLLUTANTS REDUCTION IN NANFEI RIVER FOR WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT IN LAKE CHAOHU, A LARGE EUTROPHIC SHALLOW LAKE IN CHINA (S)

Lake Chaohu is the fifth large freshwater lake and is located in Anhui province, China. Eutrophication has been very serious since 1970s. This lake often breaks out cyanobacteria blooms due to high nutrients come from inflowing rivers in the western. Nanfei River is a main polluted big shipping river. The measures of nutrients reduction and ecological restoration in the area of river mouth in Nanfei River for water quality improvement in the western of this lake include (1) setting up constructed wetlands near by the river, and improved water into the lake, (2) carrying out pollution control and ecological restoration in the tributaries of the river, (3) rehabilitating estuary wetland and eco-revetment along the riverbank. The results showed water quality of this lake was significantly improved.
